About
Located at 9 Kensington Square, London — and just a short stroll from Hyde Park — grato is a chic Italian restaurant split over two levels. With a focus on regional cuisine and the freshest ingredients, every dish is imbued with culture. Our handmade pasta is crafted with love in our very own kitchen; our wines are sourced from artisan vineyards. Our evolving menus reflect the seasons and celebrate Italy’s culinary wonders. Sample ravioli, tagliolini, and organic sourdough bruschetta. Indulge in prosciutto di parma, veal scaloppine, and blood orange polenta cake.
What’s more, our heavenly tiramisu has proved a hit with Italian natives. They claim our coffee-flavoured dessert is better than what they’ve had in the motherland. We’ve got to admit — it is irresistible!
Why grato?
Grato means “gratitude” or “thankful” in Italian. When we first found the premises, we knew it was a gem, so we named it grato to reflect that emotion. We’re honoured to be a part of this vibrant community — it holds a special place in our hearts. From our friendly locals to our hungry day-trippers, it’s been a continual joy to cook and to serve.
An Authentic Italian Experience
Dine on the ground floor and enjoy an alfresco experience overlooking the oldest garden square in Kensington. Take in the emerald lawn, the mature trees, and the surrounding historic architecture.
Upstairs, you’ll be treated to ambient dining in our beautifully decorated eating quarters. Downstairs, a private dining room makes the perfect celebration space for family dinners, parties, events, and business dinners.

Grato is the perfect choice for an intimate group or celebration dinner or even a business dinner. We can seat up to 18 guests in our private dining room.

Tuesday to Sunday 5.15pm - 11.15pm (last order 10.15pm)
On Valentine’s day (14 February) our tables are timed as follows - 2 guests for 90 minutes & 3+ guests for 120 minutes. We consider all seating requests, cannot guarantee a table of your choice. Pl. arrive within 10 minutes of your booking. We are a small restaurant and appreciate advance notice for cancellations of your bookings. We accept all major credit cards (except American Express) and cash as payment.
